Specialist Sections encourage, promote, facilitate and support the advancement of occupational therapy practice

Specialist Sections represent the diverse interests and specialties of occupational therapy. They highlight, where appropriate, areas of new development or concerns around practice matters. They contribute to the development of setting high standards and promoting good practice within their speciality. They provide advice and disseminate information through publications, newsletters, email newsletters, bulletins and online information. They facilitate national and regional study days, learning events, conferences and networking forums.

The main aims of Specialist Sections include:

• Raise awareness of occupational therapy
• Promote the development of knowledge and skills in specific areas of practice
• Promote continuing professional development within the specialist areas
• Promote research within the specialist areas
• Disseminate information and provide support networks
• Support their members regarding practice issues
• Respond to emerging issues that relate to the specialist areas of practice
• Function as a resource on emerging areas of practice, activity and new UK-wide policies
• Act in advisory capacity throughout the College
• Provide representatives for the Specialist Section Clinical Forum and Specialist Section Business Forum
