Education & Learning

The Education and Learning Department ensures that the lifelong learning and CPD needs of all BAOT members are addressed

The Education and Learning Department has five main aims which drive all activity:

  • to protect, nurture and develop the profession’s body of knowledge via accreditation of the pre-registration curricula and the setting of education standards for programmes leading to a basic/entry level qualification in occupational therapy
  • to promote and quality assure good practice in continuing professional development (CPD)/ lifelong learning (LLL) opportunities for all member groups
  • within an education and learning context support individuals throughout their OT career
  • to develop monitor and maintain a national education picture for the whole occupational therapy workforce
  • development of learning resources and learning opportunities for members to develop their occupational therapy practice

The key challenges the team faces are in maintaining meaningful partnerships with universities as they develop and deliver occupational therapy curricula, placing support worker needs more strongly in our portfolio of activities and ensuring students see the professional body as an organisation of relevance to their professional development.

Education and Learning supports the Strategic Plan by developing member services and products for learning, working hard to develop and maintain partnerships with education providers so that the College develops and protects its body of knowledge and through these activities contribute to the sustainability of the organisation.
