Merit and Fellowship Awards 2012

The College is delighted to announce the names of the BAOT members who were given a Merit and Fellowship Award in 2012

Merit Award winners 2012

These awards, introduced in 2008, are open to all members of BAOT (students, practitioners, associate members, managers, educators, researchers, new practitioners) with a minimum of two full consecutive membership years, who are recognised by their peers in the occupational therapy community for excellence in their sphere of work. The recipients for this year are:

  • Dr Jo Adams, Professional Lead for Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southampton
  • Chris Elliott, Research Occupational Therapist, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
  • Mike Garnham, Senior Clinical Practitioner, South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
  • Janet Kelly, Clinical Director Occupational Therapy Services, Aneurin Bevan Health Board
  • Pam Ringland, Specialist Occupational Therapist, Solent NHS Trust

 

Fellowship Award winners 2012

 
The award of Fellowship is the highest honour the College can bestow on one of the professional members of the British Association of Occupational Therapists in recognition of exceptional service and outstanding contribution to the profession. The recipients for this year are:

  • Claire Craig is Senior Lecturer and researcher at Sheffield Hallam University. She is a talented and inspirational educator who generates and implements innovative ideas in education and practice. Much of her work centres on the important role that occupational therapy plays in the well-being of older people and people with dementia. She is a role model and a wonderful ambassador for the profession nationally and internationally and is widely acknowledged by her peers and students.
  • Professor Avril Drummond is Professor of Healthcare Research at the University of Nottingham. She is a highly respected occupational therapist who has made outstanding contributions to practice and research for people with stroke and other neurological conditions. She is a nationally and internationally recognised author and has demonstrated a long-life commitment to occupational therapy practice, education and research.
  • Dr Jane Melton is Clinical Director for Social Inclusion at 2gether NHS Foundation Trust. She has made an extraordinary contribution to the development and promotion of the profession throughout her career as an occupational therapy practitioner – mainly for people with learning disabilities and mental health needs - and also as an educator, researcher, author, manager and leader. She is an inspiring occupational therapist and is held in high esteem, regard and respect by her peers.

 
The awards will be formally presented at the College’s Annual Conference in Glasgow in June 2012.
 
Nomination forms for the 2013 Fellowship and Merit Awards will be available from June 2012.
