COT promotes reablement live on BBC Radio Wales
Ruth Crowder, COT's policy officer for Wales, took the opportunity to speak up for occupational therapists working in reablement as part of a live BBC Radio Wales interview on 14 August.
Ruth spoke on Good Morning Wales in response to a report published by older people’s charity WRVS.
Housing stock must meet the needs of ageing population
All new homes built in Wales must meet the needs of our ageing population and older people need extra to live independently in their own homes.
That’s according to a coalition of organisations, including the College of Occupational Therapists, in response to a Welsh Government White Paper on housing out on 21 May.
Encourage your Member of the Welsh Assembly to sign reablement Statement of Opinion
The Welsh Reablement Alliance (of which COT is a key and founding member) has issued a Statement of Opinion to 'Call on the Welsh Government to continue to develop reablement services'. This has been issued in the run up to the Social Services Bill, due out in March 2012. The Social Services Bill is a key action in the Welsh Government’s Programme. There will be a full public consultation on the Bill, with a view to introducing the Bill into the National Assembly in October 2012.
College co-launches campaign to promote housing adaptations and repair for older people in Wales
The College of Occupational Therapists, Care & Repair Cymru, the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales and Age Cymru, have launched a campaign to ensure older people and their families and representatives have clear information about the support that is available for housing adaptations and repairs.
HCPC to conduct business in English and Welsh
The Health and Care Professions Council, the regulatory body for OTs and other AHPs, has approved a scheme to treat the English and Welsh languages on a basis of equality.
A Welsh language scheme has been approved that will see the HCPC deliver a bilingual service, fitness to practise proceedings, and communication with the Welsh-speaking public.
Minister for Health and Social care in Wales to address occupational therapists
Lesley Griffiths, Minister for Health and Social Care in the Welsh Government will be getting behind occupational therapists at a “Working in Partnership” Conference on 28 September in Cardiff. The Conference, hosted by the College of Occupational Therapists will bring together occupational therapists and support assistants working in different specialisms in health, social care, voluntary and private sectors.
