Occupational Therapy Practice Learning Handbook
An Occupational Therapy Practice Learning Handbook has been produced following a regional conference hosted by Trent Strategic Health Authority Multi-Professional Deanery and attended by Occupational Therapists of all grades from across Trent Region. The handbook has 3 specific aims
- To remind occupational therapists of our professional responsibility to offer placements and/or become more actively involved in student education
- To increase the number of placements offered by debunking some of the myths that people cite as reasons for not offering placements
- To inform and reassure practice placement educators
The Handbook comprises a number of sections including:
- current thinking on practice learning
- frequently asked questions
- best practice examples drawn from local area work
- contact numbers for advice on specific issues and working groups
- examples of forms
- practical tips for placement educators
- comprehensive list of references and bibliography
The Handbook is written in a reader friendly style and is intended for all occupational therapists, from managers, placement co-ordinators, practice placement educators to newly qualified occupational therapists about to embark on placement educator training. An evaluation form is included at the back of the handbook and feedback is welcomed in order to establish whether the aims of the handbook have been achieved.
