National Clinical Guidelines for Stroke - Third edition
The third edition of the National Clinical Guidelines for Stroke (NCGS) was published in July 2008 and includes sections on:
- Commissioning
- Systems underlying stroke
- Acute-phase care
- Secondary prevention
- Recovery phase - rehabilitation (Profession-specific concise guides for nurses, dietitians and therapy professionals)
- Late phase.
It was prepared by the Intercollegiate Working Party for Stroke and co-ordinated by the Clinical Effectiveness and Evaluation Unit of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP). It is available in hard copy or as a free downlaod from the Royal College of Physicians at:

Profession Specific Stroke Audit report
In 2006, Royal College of Physicians and the colleges of each profession jointly published profession-specific audit standards. The Allied Health Professionals (dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and speech and language therapists) and nurses involved with the Royal College of Physicians Intercollegiate Working Party for Stroke have conducted a pilot study of their profession-specific audit proformas on a national level.
