Functional boards ensure communication between Council and College departments

The organization has four functional boards:

  • Learning and Development
  • Membership and External Affairs
  • Professional Practice
  • Research and Development

The Research and Development Board provides strategic guidance on research and development, research governance, information management and library and information services

The Research and Development Board comprises eight BAOT members who have an interest in occupational therapy research. Board members have a responsibility to support Research and Development in the delivery of Strategic Plan objectives and to act as a link between the College, BAOT members and other stakeholders.

The Professional Practice Board considers strategic matters relating to UK policy development, emerging issues and the implications for the profession and its practitioners

It ensures the ethical and quality matters are addressed and provides a steer on interpretation and policy for occupational therapists. The Board consists of practitioners at all levels and all domains of practice across the UK. The Chair of the Board is nationally elected. Nominations are received for membership of the Board and successful candidates are selected by the Board. The Board is accountable to members of BAOT/COT through Council on which the Professional Practice Board sits.
