New OT Referral Prioritisation Decision Aid for BAOT members working in community mental health teams

The OT Referral Prioritisation Decision Aid for Community Mental Health Services, designed by Dr Priscilla Harries (Brunel University) and Dr Chris Tomlinson (Imperial College London), is a freely available referral decision-training aid for occupational therapists who would like to improve their ability to prioritise referrals for occupational therapy in the field of community mental health.

This week, from 20 - 26 February, is Eating Disorders Awareness Week in the UK. Eating disorders have a devastating impact upon the health and wellbeing of a number of women, and increasingly men, and they represent the highest mortality risk of all mental health problems.

World Mental Health Day 2011

Monday 10 October is World Mental Health Day, with the aim to raise public awareness about mental health issues. The day promotes open discussion of mental disorders, and investments in prevention, promotion and treatment services. The treatment gap for mental, neurological and substance use disorders is formidable especially in poor resource countries.

Mental health Payment by Results (PbR) has been recently introduced into mental health services in England and means providers are paid for packages of care rather than block contacts

Mental health service users are categorised into 20 care clusters according to their need using an adapted HoNOS assessment tool (Health of the Nations Outcome Scales) (Garnham et al 2010, Lee et al 2011).
